This unit is designed to help students come to an understanding of society, and their role within it. It will guide students to think about problems, in relation to how they, as young people, can work towards the solution. It will engage students to see problems from the perspective of possible change rather than all that is wrong. The concepts of civic responsibility, community, advocacy, and ethical dilemmas run deep throughout the unit.
Students will be guided to develop the following generalizations During the Unit:
- It takes courage and persistence to make a difference in our community.
- Each of us can make a difference through our own ways, whether through small or large actions.
- Despite the fact that evil and bad things exist in our society, there is also a lot of good that exists and many opportunities for creating more good in our community.
